Annapolis, MD- Anne Arundel County Assistant States Attorney Jaymi Sterling has been announced as the only prosecutor in the State to be awarded the Daily Record and Maryland State Bar Association’s 2022 “Leaders in the Law Award”.

Awards are presented in the following categories: Alternative Dispute Resolution, Dealmakers, Generation J.D., In-house Counsel, Justice Champion, Law Firm Support Staff, Leadership in Law, Lifetime Achievement, and Paralegal.

Sterling has worked at the Anne Arundel County States Attorney’s Office since October 2020. Before that, she was the Deputy State’s Attorney with the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.

“A HUGE congratulations to Assistant State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling for being named one of The Daily Record and Maryland State Bar Association’s (MSBA) 2022 Leaders in Law honorees. She is also the only prosecutor in the State of Maryland to be awarded the Daily Record and MSBA’s 2022 Leaders in the Law Award,” said Anne Colt Leitess, State’s Attorney for Anne Arundel County.

The Daily Record named Jaymi Sterling to its 2021 listing of Maryland’s Top 100 Women. Sterling was also named to the Daily Records 2016 Leading Women list in 2016. In May 2016, Sterling was named Office(Prosecutor) of the Year by the St. Mary’s County Department of Aging & Human Services, along with Triad/SALT (Seniors And Law Enforcement Together).

“It is truly an honor to be named as one of Maryland’s Leaders in Law. To be recognized on this prestigious list, I am humbled to join some of the most dedicated and outstanding lawyers in our profession. Being recognized as the only prosecutor in the State to top this list made this distinction even more special for me and all of my wonderful colleagues. I love the work we do and this is truly a team recognition, so I just want to take a moment to thank all of the attorneys and staff on my team with who I want to share this recognition with,” said Sterling.

“The 2022 Leaders in Law are outstanding members of the legal community who are committed to professional excellence. They represent a variety of backgrounds and levels, from paralegals and law firm support staff to dealmakers to those who champion justice and more,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, senior group publisher of The Daily Record. “They are dedicated to the businesses, clients, and individuals they serve. We are pleased to join our event partner and presenting sponsor, the Maryland State Bar Association, to honor our many winners.”

Sterling has also been named Co-Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Local and Specialty Liason Committee, along with being appointed to the Asian Americans Hate Crimes workgroup chaired by former U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur.

Sterling attended the Universtiy of Michigan(98-02) and earned a B.A. in Political Science, before heading to the Universtiy of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law(03-06) and earning her Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

She began her career at the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office before joining the United States Attorney’s Office in 2016. After that, she spent nine years with the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office before moving to her current position in Anne Arundel County.

“This year The Daily Record partnered with the Maryland State Bar Association to recognize members of the state’s legal community in nine categories, ranging from in-house counsel to justice champion to law firm support staff. These honorees work tirelessly to uphold high legal standards and improve communities throughout Maryland,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, senior group publisher of The Daily Record. “The Daily Record and Maryland State Bar Association congratulate this year’s honorees.”

Sterling is currently exploring a bid for the position of the top spot in the St. Mary’s County Attorney’s Office. Sterling has launched a website and Social Media account, and said,” I am truly humbled by the overwhelming expressions of support and confidence in my leadership abilities while I consider a possible run for St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney. The tremendous financial support, calls, texts, and messages on social media are extremely encouraging to me. Today I am sharing a web page that will afford folks another opportunity to share their thoughts.”

The winners will be honored on April 7 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Hilton Baltimore BWI Hotel, 1739 West Nursery Road in Linthicum Heights. Access to the celebration is limited to honorees and sponsors. To secure a sponsorship, contact Suzanne Fischer-Huettner at [email protected]. The event hashtag is #TDRevents.

Winners will be profiled in a special magazine that will be inserted into the April 8 issue of The Daily Record and will be available online at TheDailyRecord.com.
