ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The Navy swimming and diving teams will resume their respective seasons this weekend when the Mids compete at Princeton Friday at 5 p.m. The Navy men’s team will remain on the road for a 1 p.m. meet Saturday at Columbia.
This weekend will mark the final meets during the dual meet season for both Navy teams.
Fan Attendance
Fan attendance for both Princeton and Columbia is limited to a pass list submitted in advance by the Navy coaches. Each school has COVID protocols that need to be met before fans on the list will be allowed to enter the venue. These requirements include, but are not limited to, providing proof of full vaccination and wearing a mask during the meet.
ESPN+
Friday’s meet against the Tigers will be streamed through ESPN+.
Navy Men (7-1)
The Mids will be in competition for the first time since defeating Army, 158-142, on December 9. Navy never trailed the Black Knights, but never held a comfortable lead, either. The Mids led by one point, 104-103, before a strong close took Navy over the meet-clinching number of 151 points prior to the closing 400 freestyle relay.
Navy Women (7-1)
Navy won all but one of the 16 events and placed at least first and second in 11 events to defeat Army, 230-70, in what was the most recent meet for the Mids. Diver Hannah Montau (Sr., Germantown, Md.) had one of the better performances on the day for the Mids against the Black Knights. She won both diving events and, in the process, broke the meet, Navy and Patriot League records on each board.
Princeton Men (5-0)
The Tigers have posted victories this season over Brown, Dartmouth, Columbia, Penn and Cornell.
Princeton holds a 69-25 advantage in the all-time series with Navy, which dates back to the 1914-15 season.
The Mids defeated the Tigers, 171-129, Jan. 4, 2020, in Annapolis in what was the most recent dual between the teams. Navy has recorded victories over Princeton four times in the last 11 meets with three of the team’s losses in this span being decided by a total of 12 points.
Princeton Women (5-0)
Princeton has posted dual meet victories this year over Brown, Dartmouth, Rutgers, Penn and Cornell.
Navy and Princeton have met in a dual meet just once prior to this weekend. The Tigers posted a 190-101 victory over the Mids on Nov. 22, 1997, in a meet contested at Rutgers.
Columbia Men (2-3)
The Lions have defeated Penn and Yale this year and lost to Princeton, Harvard and Brown. Columbia will swim Friday at Army before playing host to Navy on Saturday.
Navy leads the all-time series with Columbia, 65-26. Prior to the 2020-21 COVID season, the teams had met annually from the 1977-78 season through the 2019-20 campaign. The teams also competed against the other each year from 1926-27 through 1969-70.
The Mids recorded a 200-100 victory over the Lions, Jan. 31, 2020, in what was the last meeting of the long-time rivals.
