At the age of 90, Margaret Mary “Peg” Schockner passed away on February 24, 2022.
Peg was born to the late Charles and Marjorie Lobdell in Elizabethtown, NY on Sept 3, 1931, moments after her twin sister Nancy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Richard “Dick” Schockner in 2015, her sisters Cora “Jean” McCasland of Champlain NY, Marjorie “Nancy” Haskell of Baldwinsville, NY and Billie Ann Wilson of San Diego, CA.
Margaret “Peg” Schockner is survived by her sister Naomi “Noni” Markle of Jacksonville, FL, and brother Charles “Pat” (Carol) Lobdell of Punta Gorda, FL; children Richard Schockner, Jr. of Watkins Glen, NY, Linda (Evaristo Vera Montiel) Vera of Henrietta, NY, William (Leslie Darman) Schockner of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren, Simon Vera-Schockner of Herndon, VA, Marlena Vera-Schockner of Henrietta, NY, Emma (Jeremy Personius) Schockner of Montour Falls, NY, Hannah (David) Stokes of Geneva, NY; great grandson Henric Personius, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Peg and her siblings have extremely fond memories of their childhood growing up on a small dairy farm in Westport, NY. After high school graduation, Peg moved to New Jersey where she met her future husband at Allen B. DuMont Laboratories, a television equipment manufacturer, where they both worked. They moved to Horseheads, NY in 1957 before building their home in Big Flats in 1967.
Her lifelong passion was caring for her family and others in need. Her door was always open to everyone. She brought joy and a contagious laughter everywhere she went. Peg was a founding member of a monthly sewing club, which 60 years later still exists as an occasional lunch club.
She graduated from Elmira College in 1980 and began her career in human services managing the CARE program at CIDS (Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Services) in Elmira and retired as a social worker from Elcor Nursing Home in Horseheads. Peg also served on the Chemung County Family Services Board.
