SILVER SPRING, Md. (WAVY) — Multiple injuries have been reported after an explosion and fire Thursday morning at an apartment building in Silver Spring, Maryland.
NBC Washington reports at least six people were injured, some seriously.
The building is in the 2400 block of Lyttonsville Road and firefighters responded around 10:30 a.m.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer called it a “mass causality incident,” meaning there were many injuries.
It’s unclear what caused the explosion, but nearby buildings have been evacuated.
Gusts of wind up to 30 mph were also affecting firefighters’ response.
