WINGATE — Mount Union’s wrestling team was eliminated from the District 6 Class 2A team tournament Tuesday evening with a 56-15 loss to Penns Valley in a first-round dual meet held at Bald Eagle Area High School in Wingate.

The Trojans got a pin from Haiden Inch at 285 pounds to start the dual before 106-pounder Mason Beatty received a forfeit to stake Mount Union to a 12-0 lead. A pair of major decisions by the Rams closed the gap to 12-8 before 126-pounder Caden Chilcote won a 5-1 decision to make it 15-8.

But the Trojans would not score again. Penns Valley racked up six pins and two forfeits from that point forward to cruise to victory.

Mount Union will have its final dual meet of the season Feb. 10 at River Valley.

Girls basketball

Mifflin County 56, Palmyra 20

LEWISTOWN — Three Mifflin County players scored in double figures as the Huskies earned a 56-20 girls basketball victory Tuesday over Palmyra.

“It was a great team for potentially our seniors last game on a Mifflin County court,” Huskies coach Aaron Gingrich said. “Any time you can hold a playoff-bound high school basketball to 20 points, you did something right defensively. Our defensive execution, communication and rebounding were solid for 32 minutes.”

Bri Bodtorf led all scorers with 17 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line along with seven rebounds. Marissa Gingrich had 15 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and five steals and Kate Knable added 12 points and three steals.

“Offensively I thought we looked a little slugglish early coming off from (Monday) night’s game with Williamsport,” Gingrich said. “Palmyra’s coach knows our girls very well and paid a lot of attention to Marissa early. We were happy to see some other girls step up and score throughout the game off of their defensive game plan.”

Mifflin County won the junior varsity game 29-13 with 12 points by Jalee Bodtorf for the Huskies.

Mifflin County (14-5) travels to Mechanicsburg on Friday.
