

UPDATE – On January 22 at 10:42 p.m., officers responded to a single-car crash on Smallwood Drive at the intersection of St. Charles Parkway.
A preliminary investigation revealed a Kia Cadenza, operated by Omar Kenyatta Hawkins, 42, of Waldorf, was being driven at a high rate of speed on Smallwood Drive.
The driver failed to navigate a turn at the intersection of St. Charles Parkway and struck a tree. Hawkins was pronounced deceased on the scene by EMS personnel.

WALDORF, Md. — We are receiving reports of a fatal motor vehicle accident on St. Charles Parkway that occurred last night.
At approximately 10:44 p.m. on January 22, first responders were called to the scene in the area of St. Charles Parkway and Smallwood Drive for reports of a serious crash, where the caller initially indicated there may be a fatality.
Upon arrival, crews discovered the vehicle which had struck a tree off the road, and had caught fire. One person was trapped in the vehicle, who was not responsive. First responders worked quickly to extricate and attempt to implement life saving measures on the patient.
The victim would be pronounced deceased on the scene soon after. Crews would work to extinguish the flames coming from the vehicle following the extrication.
Following the crash, an investigation ensued to determine the cause of the accident. The incident is still under investigation.
